Local Search- Geo-Tagging

July 18, 2008

I just recently heard about the new geo-tag that can be applied to your web pages that you want found on a local level. This is something that definitely falls witin the realm of local search.  Simply put, geo-tagging is just a way to add geographical meta data to your webpage, RSS feeds, photos, etc. Geo-tags can be added to virtually any content.

A geo-tag will allow you to let your visitors and search engines know which geographical region you are targeting. You have to know the latitude and longitude of your website in order to add geo-tags. There are geo-tag generators that are out there to help you.  Here is an example of one: http://www.geo-tag.de/generator/en.html
